KINROSS – Kinross residents are not happy with the Govan Mbeki Municipality failure to provide basic services which they paid for.

During the past six months, residents were without water and refuse removal not collected.

Some residents voiced their concern when the municipality cut-off their electricity on Tuesday, 9 October due to outstanding payments on rates and services.

“What upset me most is that Thistle Grove did not have water for the whole of last month and the refuse was not removed.

“What did they charge me for?” said one of the resident who had a bill of above R1600 for last month only.

Thistle Grove residents had several meetings, and one of them was between few residents and the Govan Mbeki Municipality Mayor’s office representatives.

During the meeting that was held at the Kinross Town Municipal Offices, the municipality admitted that the water cut crisis was due to non payment to Rand Water.

It was also mentioned that one of the reasons for the non collection of refuse was due to waste removal employees refusing to work without proper uniform.

Residents have since joined hands and formed the Kinross Rate Payers Association and will meet on Thursday, 11 October at Kinross Sasol Club to discuss way forward regarding their service delivery challenges.
