Sasol hosted an annual sports weekend that ran from Saturday, 15 April 2023 to Sunday, 16 April 2023 at different Sasol recreation clubs, which were Kinross, Secunda, and eMbalenhle Sasol Recreation club.

The Sasol Sports Weekend program aimed to develop youth skills in the Govan Mbeki Municipality by promoting local talent in a variety of sports, including Karate, Boxing, Soccer, Volleyball, Netball, Rope Skipping, Rugby, Table Tennis, Senior and Junior Cricket, Ballroom Dancing, and Chess.

The outcome of the soccer game between the under 13 and under 15 age groups was that Sasol Stallions Fc defeated Juventus Fc with a score of 2:0 shortly after Nhlanhla Shabangu scored the game winning goal in the U/15 and was awarded a gold medal and trophy. 

Thereafter, by defeating Madis Fc with a score of 4:2, Rising Stars FC claimed victory in the U/13 division, earning them a gold medal and a trophy, while Madis FC was given second place.

“I’m thankful that Sasol provided us with the chance to showcase our potential and develop it while we are still young by inviting us to the field. 

I had a great time over this sports weekend and am pleased to have won a trophy,” said Siphesihle Shezi from Sasol Stallion FC who scored the first goal during the final game against Juventus.

Mr. Johnson Nghondweni stated that it was a successful event, and he hoped to see more development in the coming year as well as more young people from the community participating in this initiative. 

He specifically thanked all community members who came to support the Sasol initiative and everyone who participated during the sports weekend.
