Siyabonga Skhosana was awarded the overall top achiever for all GS TVET College campuses during the annual award ceremony held on Thursday, 11 April.
Skhosana who hails from Emzinoni in Bethal and accompanied by his parents, managed to scoop 9 distinctions.
“I developed the love for Accounting when I was doing Grade 12 and got distinctions in Accounting and Business Studies.
“When growing up, I used to hear people talking bad about the TVET Colleges, but on my arrival at GS TVET College, I realized that what people used to say was not true,” said Skhosana who mentioned that he was happy to have achieved one of his goals of being the top student.
During the interview with Seskhona Newspaper Reporter, Skhosana said he realized his potential to get more distinctions after he got 100% in Accounting and 97% in Entrepreneurship during his N4 studies.
He thanked his parents for being supportive and encouraging him to work harder.
Skhosana is currently a Lecturer in Training whereby he received a fully paid bursary to study with Unisa while he is lecturing at GS TVET College.
He added that one of his former lecturer approached him after she saw potential in him and asked if he is interested in being a lecturer.
“I am very grateful to GS TVET College for affording me this opportunity,” Skhosana concluded.
One of the college lecturers said Siyabonga is a very humble person who always arrive early every day and is more focused.
