Storm Ladies under 20 recently represented Mpumalanga in the National Engine Champ of Champs tournament held at Wits Marks Park in Johannesburg.

Storm Ladies is a ladies’ football club established in eMbalenhle with two divisions under 13 and 20. The team currently has 53 players from eMbalenhle.

It is currently playing on Provincial League.

The team was selected as the best team to represent the Mpumalanga province, where they participated in a national tournament.

During the tournament they played against the Free State team and won (3 – 0).

Then faced the Northern Cape team where they played draw (0 – 0).

The team proceeded and played against the Limpopo team and won (5 – 0).

Second match they played against Sundowns where they lost (2 – 0).

They then qualified for semi finals where they played against Durban girls and they lost (2-1).

According to the founder and chairperson Mxolisi Mngomezulu, the team currently needs support as most girls come from underprivileged families.

When starting the team he aimed at taking young girls off the streets and preventing them from being victims of teenage pregnancy.

“As a team, we are currently looking for sponsors to help us build a clubhouse, which will be a safe space for our girls.

We would also appreciate donations, such as sanitary pads, transport, training equipment and other sponsorship.

We have knocked on so many doors around around the Govan Mbeki Municipality, with no luck,” said the founder and chairperson, Mxolisi Mngomezulu.

Mxolisi further said: the team is doing so well, also as they have a player selected to study at the National Academie.
