A 21-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court today, 29 February 2024 after he was accused of murder.
The suspect allegedly stabbed a 19-year-old male victim on Monday, 26 February 2024 around 02h00 at a tavern in Dirkiesdorp.
Police and Emergency Medical Services responded to the matter.
Upon arrival, the victim was found laying on the ground with stab wounds on his upper body.
He was certified deceased by Emergency Medical Services.
A case of murder was opened by Dirkiesdorp SAPS.
Police traced the suspect, and he was arrested on Tuesday, 27 February 2024 and charged with murder.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has strongly condemned the incident.
The general commended members for the quick investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect.
