After a successful exhibition day, The Market Photo Workshop recommenced with a conversation on photography and media as Activism and tools for Social Justice on Saturday, 27 May 2023 at Sasol Recreation centre in eMbalenhle.

The engaging was aimed to come up with solutions and possibly ways to use photography and other media as tools for Social Justice

It was also aimed to help participants connect with social activists from eMbalenhle and learn how to use media tools for activism, how to inspire others to become activists, and how to use media and other kinds of art to recognise the human effect on social and environmental concerns.

“We did face challenges but mostly we learnt a lot and for that we are grateful for the opportunity given to us as community members of Govan Mbeki Municipality,” said Sandiswa Ndibongo, one of the participants.

Team members of The Market Photo Workshop stated that it would be a great idea that the participants continue to do what they have learnt from them and teach other community members.

“I appreciate what the workshop has done for our community, especially that they did not just teach us, but they also supplied equipment which is a smartphone for us to continue with mobile journalism,” said January Thwala.
