Entrusting, motivating and elevating the community of Hammanskraal, Thunder Bay Spur together with the Hammanskraal Local Football Association (HALFA) and Hammanskraal sports academy organised and sponsored an under 13 soccer tournament which was hosted on Monday, 02 May 2022 and the teams which participated in the tournament are under HALFA.

The Ga-Ridlale tournament had a total of 12 teams who participated, which was not a boys only competition as girls were also seen playing the games at Temba Stadium, Hammanskraal.

Thunder Bay Spur Public Relations Manager, Sihle Makama said the initiative was last hosted in 2018 and could not continue due to the pandemic.

“We saw it fit to create such a tournament again in 2022 to empower the community and ensure that the community has fun while playing sports.

“We have medals for the top three teams, we have a trophy for the winning tournament team and the winning team will also be receiving football gear just to ensure that they continue participating in soccer and they have good equipment for playing the game,” said Makama.

The Leboneng FC walked away as champions, with a trophy and a full soccer kit.

Complete II FC took the second position while Eersterus Downs took the third position in the tournament, all of them received medals.

All the children who participated in the tournament also received free meal vouchers to be redeemed at Spur.

Chairperson of HALFA, Kgomotso Motaung said they are grateful to be part of the tournament.

“This tournament is very important to us because it is giving us exposure and will attract a whole lot more boys and girls in Hammanskraal to come join us.

“With the support of parents we can achieve our main aim of the association which is to get all the boys and girls off the streets to focus on activities that will have positive outcomes to their future through football, we thank Spur for hosting and sponsoring our event because without them none of this would be possible,” said Motaung.
