Two suspects aged 20 and 23 years old are expected to appear before the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 February 2022, facing a charge of the murder of Jabu Mathibela.
The murder occurred on 07 February 2022, at Hlalanikahle Extension 3 in Vosman.
The two suspects robbed the 42 year old Mr Mathibala of his personal belongings and murdered him.
His body, which had multiple stab wounds was dumped inside a bridge hole by the suspects and was later discovered by his family.
Police were notified about the incident and a case was opened to that effect.
Through their investigation, police managed to establish that the two suspects were somehow fingered in the robbery and murder of Mathibela hence they were pursued by these members.
According to the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, an operation was conducted by the SAPS members in Vosman.
“They made a breakthrough when they arrested the two suspects in the early hours of yesterday Thursday, 10 February 2022 at their place of residence, not far from where Mathibela’s body was discovered.
During their arrest, they were reportedly found in possession of some property believed to be that of the victim.
Police also seized an item which they believe might be the weapon used in the murder” she added.
The astute members also noticed some blood stains in some of the seized items.
In her statement, the Lieutenant General confirmed also that all confiscated items will form part of their investigation.
