Two teachers from Lekgalong primary school in Ga-Rankuwa were shot dead on Monday, 21 March 2022.
According to the Gauteng Department of Education, two teachers, the 27-year-old and 26-year-old female educators were allegedly shot dead by one of the educator’s partner at approximately 15h00 on Monday.
“We are devastated at this gruesome act of criminality that has taken the two of our youngest and brightest educators.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and all affected members of the Lekgalong Primary School community,” MEC Lesufi said.
According to Shimi Tsheole, SAPS Ga-Rankuwa Spokesperson, police received a complaint of double murder and responded quickly to the scene of the crime.
Upon arrival, the police were directed to a rented room belonging to one of the victims.
Two bodies of African females believed to be in their twenties and that of an African male believed to be in his early fifties were all found with bullet wounds.
“A case of two counts of murder, unlawful possession of firearm and suicide have been opened by SAPS Ga-Rankuwa.
“This is after a reported incident which took place on 2022-03-21 at about 15H15 at Nthate street, Unit 1 Ga-Rankuwa,” Tsheole said.
Preliminary investigation suggest that the firearm used is illegal and investigations of the alleged crime are still underway.
The Gauteng department of education has extended Psycho-Social support to both the affected families and the school community.
