The baby girl found dumped in Evander late Tuesday afternoon, 02 August 2022 at about 17h35 has sadly passed on.

The baby was taken to Evander hospital by Net Care paramedics where she fought for her life and lost her battle after she was found dumped behind the SASSA offices in Evander, bleeding from ears and nose.

According to Evander Police Spokesperson Zuki Mxhotyelwa, the police received a call at around 17h35 from the security personnel from SASSA about their discovery of the baby who was wrapped with a white blanket and placed under a tree.

The police at Evander responded swiftly and upon arrival, they thought the baby was dead because she was not moving and blood was coming out of her ears and nose.

Upon examination the paramedics found that the baby was still alive and was rushed to hospital where she continued to fight for her life.

“The baby sadly passed on at 22h00 yesterday at Evander hospital and the doctors confirmed that the baby was seven (7) days old when she was dumped,” explained Const Zuki Mxhotyelwa.

The cause of death is unknown at this stage, however, it is suspected that the mother could have assaulted the baby before dumping her.

Investigation into the cause of death currently underway.
