EFF takes Andries Tatane clean-up campaign to Bethal ward 26 in Mpumalanga on Saturday, 10 June 2023 with CIC Julius Malema helping to clean up the community of Emzinoni.

The EFF Tatane cleaning up campaign was launched in memory of activist Andries Tatane, who was killed in April 2011 in Ficksburg, Free State, after being beaten to death by police officers who were protesting the delivery of services.

The members of Emzinoni voiced out that the large dumping site makes their lives miserable as it is too close to their home and attracts flies and rats.

Criminals also find a place to hide, waiting to rob people who are passing by during the evening.

The EFF members came prepared with shovels, enormous black baggage, and grass cutters.

Community members in Emzinoni ward 26 provided them with some equipment assistance.

“We appreciate this initiative and as members of the community, we hope we can keep it up and ensure that our environment is always clean,” said Cllr Mavis Nsibande, MMC of Community service.

Malema stated that he wants to make the cleaning campaign fashionable and to make sure all EFF councillors are engaged in this initiative.

“We encourage everyone to come and assist us in cleaning the surrounding area, and it is also the neighborhood’s obligation to maintain the community after this cleaning campaign so that their environment can remain clean at all times,” said CIC Julius Malema.

EFF leader Malema concluded by saying people must be educated about the benefits of a clean environment.
