eMbalenhle Community Forum marched to the Sasol Headquarters in Sandton last week.
Their demand was that Sasol service providers should employ 80 percent of the local people.
“Labour brokers keep on hiring people from outside, but when we go to other areas like Sasolburg and Lephalale, we gets turned back.
“They tell us straight that they are hiring their local people, so why should we get excluded in our own area and also in other areas?” said Mr Sibusiso Malope who is the spokesperson for eMbalenhle Community Forum.
They also mentioned that everytime Sasol gives outside companies jobs and their main reason was the local people do not have needed skills.
“We do not have needed skills for all these years?
“What is Sasol plan to ensure that local people have the needed skills?” asked Mr Khehla Mahlangu.
Another biggest concern for the eMbalenhle Community Forum is the Sasol camp.
They demand that Sasol should do away with the camp, because it was made to accomodate people who comes from other areas without accommodation.
The Forum added that Sasol should have one main contractor which hire local people.
They also demanded that Sasol should audit all the service providers to check if they comply with their policies of employing local people.
Sasol was given 30 days to respond and was also informed that should they not attend to the stipulated issues, eMbalenhle residents will make sure that all the mines comes to a standstill.
Mr Sibusiso Malope said Sasol should also stop using SMSes as a process of employing young people for learnerships.
They should go to local schools and recruit the matriculants for the learnerships.
