The alleged serial rapist and murderer from eMbalenhle, Themba Prince Shongwe appeared before the Secunda magistrate court on Monday, 10 June 2024 for the proceedings of his trial.
Shongwe Is facing charges of rape and murder of young girls from eMbalenhle aged between 11 to 16.
Community members raised their concerns outside court after the trial was postponed to another date.
The postponement came after the defense lawyer reported he had a car breakdown on his way to court therefore he could not make it to trial.
“We are tired of the defense lawyer with his excuses each time he has to come to court, he should have an alternative. He always makes excuses.
We are now tired of this dragging trial. We want this criminal to be convicted so that we can have closure,” said a community member. Raising their concerns.
With only two state witnesses left to testify the trial is almost towards the end as the accused will also be taking the stand with his witnesses.
The trial was further postponed to 25 June 2024.
