Health workers and community members of eMbelanhle gathered at Ext 4 Clinic to bid farewell to Sister Jane Mathlou, the operational manager, who is retiring after 31 years of dedicated service to the Department of Health.

The farewell took place during the clinic’s Open Day, on Friday, 25 April 2025, which aimed to educate the community on how to better utilise the clinic’s services and promote improved healthcare. Various health stakeholders offered services including HIV testing, blood pressure monitoring, and screenings for chronic illnesses.

In her farewell speech, Sr Mathlou expressed gratitude for her journey, describing it as both challenging and fulfilling.

“Honestly speaking, it has not been easy because we have to work with people that have different personalities, but I tried my best to deliver the best services. I’m grateful to have worked with such friendly people who made my job easier,” she said.

Community members shared heartfelt messages, many visibly emotional over her departure.

“Nurses have their own attitude, but one thing about Mam Jane is that she loved us and tried by all means to make sure that we got the best services and did not stay the whole day at the clinic,” said local resident Nomthandazo Tshabalala.

Despite the celebrations, clinic operations continued smoothly and patients were attended to without interruption.
