In the closing of Heritage Month, the Govan Mbeki Municipality employees were encouraged to wear their respective cultural attire to work.
GMM hosted a heritage celebration at the municipal offices in Secunda on Friday, 29 September 2023.
The aim of the event was to promote all diverse cultures, traditions, and languages.
“I love how everyone participated and looked beautiful in their attire,” said Mr. Elliot Maseko, Municipal Manager.
Employees participated in different activities, including traditional dancing and short heritage quizzes.
Prizes were won for best dressed male and female (heritage attire), best traditional dancer male and female, and a short heritage quiz.
Although the event took place during working hours, all essential services were not affected.
“This was our first heritage event, but our plan is to have more in the future,” said Mr Maseko.
Beautiful traditional items were sold during the event as part of the celebration of African culture.
Lastly, employees were entertained through music, poetry, and dancing.
