Within the past month, more than four (4) houses caught fire in and around Embalenhle.

On Friday, 08 September 2023, a man perished in a house fire at about 02h30 in the early hours of the morning in Ext 12.

In another incident on Sunday, 20 August and on Tuesday, 22 August 2023, two shacks burned down on consecutive days at Mandela Section, injuring a grandmother and her grandson, who sustained serious burn injuries.

It is alleged that the fire usually sparks during the hours of loadshedding, when the electricity is switched back on.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, 06 September 2023 in another incident at ext 12, a shack burnt down leaving two siblings without a shelter.

It was alleged that a fire broke out during the day inside a shack when the owners were not around.

It was further alleged that there was loadshedding at the time of the fire and no one was around, which makes it a mystery as to how the fire started.

Residents are urged to switch off electric appliances and plugs during load-shedding times.
