A man from Leandra appeared at the Evander Magistrate Court on Thursday, 16 September 2021 for alleged rape and assault case.
His case was postponed to Monday, 20 September 2021 for a legal representative.
The incident was said to have happened on 29 August 2021 at Marikana Section in Leandra and the victim is still at the hospital due to serious injuries she suffered during the ordeal.
According to some of the people who live near the suspect home, the victim was dragged by the suspect into his shack at around 3pm.
She was later released after some people went and knocked at the suspect’s door when hearing her crying for help.
On arrival at her home, the relatives who do not live far from her realized she was badly injured and advised her to go to the clinic.
She was accompanied to the clinic and was referred to open a case at the police station.
It is alleged that the police turned her back and was instructed to return the following day.
On Monday, 30 August 2021 she went back and a case was opened.
She was informed to go to the hospital and was admitted immediately.
The community of Leandra got angry when the suspect was seen walking freely.
Residents mobilized themselves, cornered the suspect, and handed him to the police on Saturday, 4 September 2021 hence his appearance in court.
Some women spoke to Seskhona Media claiming that they were also assaulted by the suspect but are afraid to come forward because he is a friend to some of the police.
