Local entrepreneur Vincent Mathibela launched a project to sponsor the best matric learner.
Mathibela who owns Forvinny’s Restaurant and e87 Mathibela Financial Services said the reason he launched his project at Chief Ampie Mayisa Secondary School was that he also passed his matric there.
The best matric learner at Chief Ampie Mayisa will receive R20 000 to further studies at a tertiary institution of own choice.
As someone who has businesses in Leandra, it is another way of giving back to the community that always supported him.
Talking to Seskhona Media, Mathibela said the project will continue and next year he would like to sponsor two learners, one from Chief Ampie Mayisa and also from Vukuqakaze Secondary School.
“There are many people who are contributing to the community, but in my heart I always wanted to do this.
As someone who was raised by a single parent, I would love to see learners who are also raised by a single parent or coming from needy families receiving the money,” Mathibela added.
According Mathibela the initiative will also help to encourage learners to work harder.
“I was not clever in class but that did not discourage me to work hard.
After matric, I studied through Unisa and could not find a job. I ended up working for the South African Police Service,” Mathibela concluded, adding that he is available to offer mentorship and guidance to the young people.
During his launch, Mathibela was accompanied by two friends who also happened to be local entrepreneurs.
Prince Mdaki and Dj Tazzmo said they loved the project and would like to be part of it next year.
