Thistle Grove Library in partnership with friends of the library and local schools hosted a spelling bee for the Grade 7 learners. The event that took place on Monday, 7 December 2020 was graced by the Provincial Department of Arts and Culture representative, Ms Thobile Mogale and Mr Amos Mathonsi from Gert Sibande District Library.
The first round of the competition was between schools and the second round was on individual learners. Highveld Muslim learner, Maria Farooq scooped the first prize.
The second prize went to Khensani Mkhuzo from Sasolia Primary School and the third prize was awarded Kinross Primary School learner, Thabiso Mathibela.
Ms Mogale thanked Thistle Grove Library for always standing out when it comes to library programmes.
“As the department, we were supposed to help Thistle Grove Library with all the preparations and organize sponsors BUT NO, Ms Priscilla Naidoo and her team organized everything including looking for sponsors,” said Ms Mogale who further mentioned that out of all the libraries in the province, Kinross is one of the best.
Local entrepreneur Mathew Mehala decorated the venue and also sponsored a prize for the overall winner.
Graceland Casino sponsored with the trophies.
Ms Naidoo from Thistle Grove Library thanked all the sponsors, judges, friends of the library, and the community for the support they gave her.
