Giftson Sbusiso Simela, a 30-years-old young man, a finalist in the Mr. Mpumalanga 2023 competition from Witbank Emalahleni, is passionate about modeling and committed to assisting young people from various areas in pursuing their aspirations.
Giftson first became interested in modeling in grade 4 of primary school after seeing a fashion show, but he was still unsure of what type of modeling he belonged to.
Giftson recalled that during his elementary school years, they used to hold fashion shows where participants had to bring old clothes from home and select the character they would portray on stage. He added that it was humorous and he enjoyed performing on stage while walking and acting.
“Though I had the ambition to model when I was younger, I didn’t fully understand the modeling industry,” said Giftson when he revealed that Mr. Mpumalanga was the first competition he had ever entered in his modeling career.
He continued by saying that since he is currently the retail supervisor at LeCoq Sportif, he has learnt how to put people first, pay attention to their needs, and extend a helpful hand.
But he was taught as he was growing up to respect others, never judge, never criticize, and always be appreciative. As a result of his dedication at the store, he received the award for being the most dependable and committed person.
Giftson believes that there is a gap in the boy child’s protection.
They are mistreated, and they are prone to hanging out with the wrong crowd.
From there, they go on to drugs like alcohol, cigarettes, and cannabis, and then it gets serious.
He added that young children have a bright future and should all be given protection because they are talented and creative.
Additionally, he claimed that since substance misuse has increased drastically over the past ten years, individuals need to take immediate action. Giftson is arguing in favor of this approach to combat drug misuse.
If he wins, Mr. Mpumalanga 2023, he said he will endeavor to improve the life of a boy child.
