The learners and teachers from Shapeve Primary School in eMbalenhle hosted a welcome back tea party for Ms. Thembekile Khumalo on Monday, 28 October 2024, who represented Mpumalanga DBE in China for three (3) weeks.
The trip came after the grade 7 teacher, Ms. Khumalo, was awarded an Excellence in Teaching Natural Science certificate from the Mpumalanga education department, coming first place in the province and second place in the national level in September 2023.
“I feel so special, I don’t even know what to say to everyone. I’m grateful for the opportunity to go to China, and I can guarantee that everyone can make it to China, but only if you put hard work into everything that you do,” said Ms. Khumalo.
Ms. Khumalo also mentioned that there are great opportunities abroad for both teachers and learners.
Teachers were happy and joyful to see their colleague back; some even wanted to learn the Chinese.
“We are happy to have you back, Ms. Khumalo, and I hope we all learnt that determination and hard work do take you places,” said Mr. Shabangu, Principal of Shapeve Primary School.
