The Embalenhle SAPS has welcomed the successful conclusion of a murder case following the conviction and sentencing of 31-year-old Unathi Ndabemfene, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Ndabemfene was convicted by the Delmas High Court and sentenced at the Breyten Magistrate’s Court on 12 August 2026, after evidence presented during the trial established his involvement in the murder of a 28-year-old woman at White City, Embalenhle, on 30 May 2024.

The incident came to light after the victim was found deceased inside a room. Police attending the scene observed no signs of forced entry, while further examination revealed injuries consistent with strangulation.

Through diligent investigative work, the suspect was identified and investigators established that he had fled to the Western Cape. Continued efforts by the investigating team resulted in him being traced and arrested. He was subsequently charged and brought before court.

The court found Ndabemfene guilty of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of the relevant legislation.

Embalenhle SAPS management commended the dedication and commitment of the investigating team, particularly Detective Captain Fannie Sindane, who took over the investigation and continued driving the case towards a successful conclusion after Detective Captain Melusi Mthombeni was promoted and transferred to Kwaggafontein.

The Station Commander also applauded Detective Captain Mthombeni for his outstanding investigative work, dedication and commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of serious crimes are brought to justice. Despite his promotion and transfer, Captain Mthombeni’s contribution to the investigation played an important role in securing justice for the victim and her family.

Embalenhle SAPS further acknowledged the cooperation and support of all role players who contributed towards ensuring that justice was served for the victim and her family.

The sentence sends a strong message that perpetrators of murder and gender-based violence will face the full might of the law.
