Six (6) accused, Fanuel Tholo, Sizwe Mabizela, Lucky Ndlovu, Ayanda Dube, Bahe Sithole, and Bhekisisa Ndlovu, respectively, appeared before the Evander Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 01 October 2024, for sentencing.

On count (1): Accused one, two, three, four, and six were sentenced to 10 years of direct imprisonment for robbery with agrivating circumstances.

Meanwhile, accused number five was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment. 

Count (2): Accused one, two, and three were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for possession of an unlicensed firearm, which will not run concurrently with count 1.

Count (3): Accused one, two, and three were sentenced to five years imprisonment, which will run concurrently with counts 1 and 2.

The sentencing comes after the six were found guilty of the bussiness robbery that took place in Leandra Pick n Pay store in the morning of the 1st of June 2018, where the store was robbed of an amount estimated at about R200 40 000.00 (two hundred and forty thousand rands), which was meant for social relief grant payouts.

Five of the accused have been in custody for six years and three months.

The National Prosecution Authority welcomes the sentences imposed by the Presiding Officer.
