This is an important reminder to the residents of Govan Mbeki Municipality of the critical maintenance on its key infrastructure planned by Rand Water.
The maintenance is scheduled from Thursday, 29 May, at about 03h00 to Monday, 02 June 2025, around 17h00, which will result in a period of 107 hours of pumping operations.
The maintenance is part of Rand Water’s commitment to ensuring a sustainable and efficient water supply.
During the media briefing held at the municipal auditorium last Wednesday, 22 May 2025, the Executive Mayor of GMM, Cllr Nhlakanipho Zuma, indicated the urgent contingency plan included water tankers to supply water and seven boreholes across the areas of GMM.
Zuma also outlined that there are businesses that also responded to the crises and agreed to help by supplying water from their tanks and reservoirs.
“We urge that residents also store enough water before the water runs out because some areas might not have water even after the 2nd of June, as I was advised that the process takes about 7-14 days,” said Cllr Zuma.
Zuma further indicated that there will be communication through councillors and PR councillors regarding the water tankers.
The boreholes installed will fit with a 10,000-liter water tank.
“We also urge that the public boil the water before consuming as we are not sure of the quality,” said Zuma.
