Sifiso Khumalo (42) appeared before the Evander Magistrate court on Monday, 26 May 2025, for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, who was 7 Months pregnant, according to the family.

According to information at police disposal, Veronicah Dibuseng Madela (34) was found lying in a pool of blood, with visible blood stains on the walls.

She was said to have sustained a stab wound to the chest and visible head injuries, believed to have been caused by bricks.

She was certified deceased at the scene by emergency medical services, and a clinic card found nearby confirmed that she was pregnant.

Information received from close friends and family of the deceased, the two had been in a fight a few days back, and the deceased was staying at a friend’s house, where her body was discovered.

The community launched a manhunt, and police were summoned. It was later in the evening when the suspect was apprehended after he threw himself in front of a moving vehicle, allegedly trying to commit suicide.

According to the family, the suspect has been terrorising them during the time of his relationship with the deceased. They alleged to have reported the suspect several times to the police, and nothing was done, and the sister of the deceased had opened a sexual assault case against the suspect.

“As a community we are very hurt about this incident, The police have failed this family as the suspect sexually assaulted a relative of the deceased and the family would always inform the police whenever the suspect was spotted around Kinross but nothing was done, what he has done has shocked us because we now have the picture of the deceased from the scene. We are very much traumatised,” said one of the community members.

“My sister was killed horrifically. I blame the state, as they were slow in attending to us. If they had attended to us sooner, maybe my sister would still be alive. As a family, we are deeply hurt by this man who has abused us as a family. He would threaten us as a family since we opened a case against him,” Said the sister of the deceased as she tried to compose. herself.

The matter was postponed to Wednesday, 28 May 2025 for Khumalo to apply for legal aid.
