Students at Technical High School got a visit from SAPS Soshanguve in the middle of high levels of substance abuse cases in Gauteng high schools.
Members of the SAPS addressed drug abuse with Grade 10, 11, and 12 learners at the high school in Soshanguve, Tshwane on Friday, 22 April 2022 where they sensitised learners on the risk and consequences of substance abuse.
Many learners abuse drugs due to peer pressure, lack of discipline, lack of school policies on drug abuse, and a lack of parental guidance on drug abuse.
School learners who use drugs and are addicted to drugs are at high risk of educational failure compared to those who don’t use drugs, and those who abuse drugs are at an even higher risk of dropping out of school.
The students were advised to participate in extramural activities such as sports to avoid being exposed to drugs.
