Sasol partnered with other business to host a Winter Warmer Drive campaign at Lillian Ngoyi Centre in Secunda.
This initiative is part of the newly-formed Govan Mbeki CSR Forum.
The Sasol Winter Warmer Drive aims to make the harsh Highveld winter a bit more bearable for the most vulnerable of society within the Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM). Companies that partnered with Sasol to donate to the poor include in partnership with SNCLAVALIN, M&S, Proconics, Fempower, Megchem, OTB,PDPS, Sanitech and PROMMAC.
Sasol employees through Sasol For Good, the company’s in-house employee volunteering programme, donated to this worthy cause.
In the past Sasol’s contributions went towards assisting orphans and other vulnerable children as well as senior citizens around GMM.
This year the campaign is bigger than last year’s due to the participation of other companies, which are also members of the Govan Mbeki CSR Forum.
The essential items donated include non-perishable food, toiletries, blankets, beanies, scarves and gloves.
Employee volunteers from the GMM CSR Forum prepared a heart-warming soup kitchen for homeless people and gave nearly 2 000 blankets.
Chairperson of Govan Mbeki CSR, Mr Neil Engelbrecht thanked all the Non Governmental Organisations for working tirelessly and being a beacon of hope to the community.
He also urged the businesses and individuals to be part of #SendUs.
GMM Executive Mayor, Cllr Thandi Ngxonono congratulated the forum for yielding on the government call to declare Fridays as Mandela Friday.
