Aphiwe Mje (24), Khawlezile Nono (40) and Bongumusa Gujela (31) appeared before the Evander Magistrates court, today 26 February 2025 for a formal bail hearing.

The trio stands accused of the alleged gruesome murder of Abraham Masiteng.

They are facing a charge of premeditated murder, Kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice.

The state objects to the release of the accused on bail as the three acted on common purpose.

The court heard that the three were seen by eyewitnesses assaulting the deceased, it is alleged that he was strangled and assaulted. A rope was said to have been used to tie his private parts, and then tied around his neck so much that when he was discovered it appeared as though the private part was amputated.

Accused no.1 testified before court that he wants bail so that he can be able to see his four-month-old baby.

The state put it to the accused that they have a strong case as they have eyewitnesses and a confession made by accused no.3, therefore should they be granted bail they could evade trial.

Two of the accused are yet to testify on why the court should grant them bail.

The matter was postponed to 07 March 2025 for further bail hearing.
