Three people, including a one-month-old baby, died after a head-on collision involving two vehicles at the R39 Road near Lothair on the afternoon of Monday, 28 March 2022 around 15h30.

According to the police report at Lothair, the police attended an accident scene and it is alleged that a blue VW Polo TSI was traveling from Ermelo direction towards Lothair when it collided head-on with a white Audi A3 Sedan which was traveling from Lothair direction towards Ermelo.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the occupants of the Audi sustained serious injuries whilst three passengers of the Polo lost their lives on the scene and they are a 01-month-old baby girl, a 13-year-old boy, and a 27-year-old woman, and the driver of the Polo along with two other occupants are said to have sustained some serious injuries.

“All injured persons were taken to hospital for treatment,” said Mohlala.

“A case of Culpable Homicide was opened and is being investigated by the Lothair Police and the cause of the accident is unclear at this stage”, concluded Mohlala.
