The Vukanini Taxi Association handed over a newly built home to the Nhleko family in eMbalenhle on Monday, 29 July 2024.
The family was left in shock and in tears because they believed that their old home would be demolished on the said day for the new home to be built.
The Nhleko family lost their one-room shack through fire at Gate 7 section in eMbalenhle towards the end of June 2024.
VUKTA visited Allan Makhunga primary school on Mandela Day, 18 July 2024, to donate necessities; however, the teachers informed them about the situation faced by the Nhleko family.
The association promised to visit the family, and indeed they visited the family on the same day as promised.
“We were not pleased to see the condition the Nhleko family was living in, so we took it upon us to help the family.
I believe in ‘sharing is caring’ and I want these children to grow up and be great leaders,” said Mr. Sibanyoni, chairperson of the Vukanini Taxi Association.
Mr. Sibanyoni further thanked Mr. Mtsweni for sharing his land, as he would use that space for his scrapyard, but he willingly gave them the land.
Not only did the association manage to get land, where they built a 5-room shack, but they also bought new furniture, including solar lights, four (4) beds, a kitchen suite, and other things.
VUKTA, along with the School Governing Body (SGB) and teachers, also donated clothes and food for the family.
“No words can explain how grateful I am. There are many families that are facing the same situation that I was facing, but God sent Vukanini to my family.
I would like to thank the teachers and SGB from Allan Makhunga Primary School, as they’ve shown my children so much love. Not to forget Mr. Sibanyoni and the association; I am honestly grateful. May God bless you all with many more blessings,” said Ms. Nhleko.
In closing, Mr. Sibanyoni announced that as of Tuesday, 30 July 2024, Ms. Nhleko will be working at Blue rank (eMbalenhle taxi rank) as she was unemployed.
