Vukanini Taxi Association used the Mandela Day to celebrate the life of their Stalwart, Mr KI Twala.
Mr Twala is also the nameholder of KI Twala Secondary School based in eMbalenhle.
Vukta was celebrating 40 years of existence and Mr Twala also celebrated 40 of Vukta membership.
During the event, it was mentioned that Mr Twala was one of the people who had a vision and saw the need to take taxi business to another level.
Before Vukta was born, taxi operators belonged to South African Black Taxi Association.
Mr Twala was the first Vukta chairperson and was praised for his negotiation skills during difficult times.
He was said to have instilled the notion of sitting around the table and resolve issues and never believed in fights.
Mr Nhlanhla Magagula explained the history of the taxi association.
Mr Twala was showered with a cheque of R50 000 by Vukta.
