With the vision of transforming the socio-economic circumstances of the most deprived youth in the area of Govan Mbeki Municipality, Ye-Ya Community-Based Foundation hosted the sixth annual day of Recreation, Sports, Arts and Culture festival on Friday, 16 June 2023 and Saturday, 17 June 2023 at Ndlovu Street, Ext 1 in eMbalenhle.
The aim of the event is to involve the youth of GMM in activities that celebrate their youth culture and also spread messages of healthy living, HIV/Aids prevention, fighting against drugs, and fighting against COVID-19, substance abuse and expression of individual talents.
Community members participated in different activities including; chess, street soccer, morabaraba, diketo, skipping and more.
New ‘Kasi’ games were also included, namely; uMatashana; igusha, ama tin and izimabura.
Their research has proved that there is a lack of development in the community, and an opportunity exists for the establishment of a body that will stimulate and drive developmental programs in the community.
The foundation hopes to host more successful recreation, sports, arts and culture festivals in the future.
