Zwelakhe Sakhile Ntuli was fatally stabbed in April 2021 at his home, which served as his haven of safety.

After a year and ten months of back and forth at Evander Magistrate Court, the accused appeared in court on Tuesday, 17 January 2023, for the murder conviction and sentencing judgement. The late Zwelakhe was an ex – boyfriend to the accused’s daughter.

It is alleged that the accused, Mr Thabo Sekabate took actions of stabbing Zwelakhe after hisdaughter accused him of rape which had allegedly happened few years ago whilst they were still in a romantic relationship.

It is further alleged that the accused visited the Ntuli’s home on the said fateful day, with the intentions of sitting down with the family and have a desent conversation about the allegations made against their son but he did not even make it inside the house.

The accused met with the deceased outside where the altercation occured and the deceased ran back into the house with several stab wounds where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The said daughter was no longer in a relationship with the deceased when all of this transpired. The accused was sentenced to seven (7) years in prison.

Mr Micheal Ntuli, father of the late Zwelakhe stated that the family feels that justice has failed them because seven years is nothing compared to what the accused has done.

“I will definitely apply for an appeal so that the case is taken to the high court because justice was not served enough for my late son and the family,” said Mr Ntuli.

“It hurts, especially to the family that the only justice they can get is Thabo being locked away for only seven (7) years. These years are nothing trying to live your life without a son,” said Balungile Mokoena, one of the friends of the late Zwelakhe
