Mr Sello Molepo, former Principal of Kiriyatswana Secondary School and current Circuit Manager of Highveld Ridge East was tasked to identify the schools with learners who are underprivileged and deserving.
The identified beneficiaries of the school uniform and stationery were learners from, Shapeve Primary School and Zamokuhle Primary School.
Sbongiseni Malaza, a former learner at Thistle Grove Combined School received a full-paid bursary to study towards his BSc in Mechanical Engineering at WITS University for the duration of his studies.
“I am overwhelmed by this great gesture because my bursary covers tuition fees, books, accommodation and a stipend which I will be receiving on a monthly basis.
Evander Gold Mine even offered me vocational work during my school holidays so that I can learn and do my practical within the mine”, said Malaza with gratitude.
Shapeve Primary School in eMbalenhle was subsequently graced by a donation of a mobile library filled with books for children to read.
In her hand-over speech, Ms Livhuwani Ramuedzisi who is a Human Resource and CSI Program Manager at Evander Gold Mining said the purpose of a mobile library is to allow learners to be able to access it from the comfort of their classrooms.
“Education is a key to creating future leaders and knowledge is stored in the books.
Storage facilities are also limited; therefore we saw a need to provide for something which will be easy to move around”, said Ramuedzisi
She further stated that Evander Gold Mine will be doing a drive with several schools within Govan Mbeki Municipality wherein thousands of sanitary towels be donated to a girl child.
