Glory of the Last Days Community Welfare Projects Organization was launched on Saturday, 8 February at Embalenhle Ext 18.
According to the founders of the organization, its main aim was to help the elderly people live a healthy life through exercises and playing different sporting codes.
“After we have started with the exercises, we realized that some of our members need more than just exercise.
Some of the elderly people stay alone, others are left alone during the day without anyone to interact with,” said Busi Mahlangu who is one of the co- founders.
Mahlangu further mentioned that currently they meet at the soccer ground during the training time since they do not have a centre yet.
Even though the project was aimed at helping the elderly people, it also attracted young people who also wants to stay fitt.
The youngest member in the organization is 23 year old and the oldest is 73.
Gogo Mosiya who is also a co-founder was said to have played a pivot role by recruiting members, especially the elderly people to join the organization.
Their short term goal is to start having a feeding scheme for the elderlies and the long term goal includes having a centre where they will be able to cook and teach them handworks to keep them busy.
The organization was established in January 2020, but already has 110 registered members.
The launch was supported by the local ward councillors, Cllr andiwe Zulu, PR Cllr Anitta Mkhwebane and PR Cllr Lucia Karim.
The same day of the launch was also a birthday for Cllr Mkhwebane who shared a cake with the elderly people.
