The Southern African Youth Movement (SAYM) was incredibly honoured to be part of a great initiative done by Rama City since 2019.
The SA Youth Movement’s sports event held in Rama City, Tshwane on Saturday 18 June 2022, featured four soccer and four netball teams.
The winning soccer team, Madidi Masters beating Rama City 3 – 0 took home R10, 000 while the netball winners, Sun City Masters beating SAYM 23 – 32 took home R7, 000.
Tebogo Manganyi, who is responsible for the SAYM’s marketing and communications said their aim was to empower youth through skills training.
“We train young people in marketing, we have been doing so since 2020.
Before then we have been responsible for the community work programme (CPW) in Limpopo and Eastern Cape, it is a mixture of young and older people.
In the Eastern Cape we have employed 47, 000, while in Limpopo 31, 000 people.
We also do a vaccination drive where we encourage young people to vaccinate.
That is why we have partnered with people like rapper Fifi Cooper and actor Israel Matseke-Zulu.
Young people are able to listen to them and pay attention because they are famous,” said Manganyi.
Manganyi added they are proud to have successfully hosted the youth celebrations.
“We successfully hosted youth celebrations through soccer and netball, we also hosted a gala dinner where we outlined to young people projects that can benefit them.
We are looking forward into building the initiative in becoming talent scouting for professional soccer and netball players and also including other sporting quotes like volleyball as well as indigenous games,” he said.
Dj Papa of Motsweding FM and Ma H performed during the winners’ ceremony.
Fifi Cooper and Israel were unable to make it due to other commitments they couldn’t get themselves out of, though it was a pledge for them as SAYM Ambassadors, they were not booked to participate, they were coming as ambassadors.
