A 39-year-old woman from Leandra, Marikana informal settlement was arrested after allegedly dumping her one year old daughter in a pit toilet last night, 04 June 2025.
According to information received, the neighbours of the woman heard cries of the child from the toilet, they then informed Ms Bongiwe Ngubeni who is part of the community police forum (CPF). She then summoned all emergency personnel to the scene of the incident.
The child was extracted from the toilet. Seeing the ambulance was delaying, a neighbour offered to transport the child to the clinic.
At the clinic the child was rushed to the hospital as she was in a critical state.
Constable Nontobeko Ngubeni, Leandra Police Station Spokesperson confirmed the woman’s arrest. She is expected to appear before the Leslie periodical court soon.
