A dynamic and versatile career Correctional official. Ms. Nomthandazo Radebe has been exceptionally serving in the Department of Correctional Services, Bethal Management Area, since her enlistment in 2006.
Her audacious character was demonstrated in 2007 when she became a member of the Emergency Support Team (EST). At the time, there were only three female officers serving as EST members at Bethal Management Area.
As an EST member, she was responsible for a range of operational duties, including escorting offenders to court, conducting searches, facilitating offender transfers, guarding offenders, and attending to offenders’ complaints and requests.
“This experience provided me with valuable exposure to operational responsibilities and strengthened my ability to work under demanding circumstances while maintaining professionalism and discipline,” said Ms Radebe
She served the EST until 2015 and subsequently grew within the ranks as she served various sections within the department.
She is currently a Procurement Supervisor in the Office of the Area Commissioner of Bethal Management Area. A post that she occupied since 2017, she is responsible for supervising procurement-related functions and contributing to the effective administration of the organisation.
Beyond professional career, Ms. Radebe is a dedicated sportswoman who is actively involved in various sporting codes. She is inspired by a belief that sport is not only about competition and physical fitness, but also about discipline, teamwork, leadership, confidence, resilience and community development.
She is also passionate about using sport as a platform to inspire and empower others, particularly young people. She is a handball and soccer player as well as aerobics instructor. She became involved in sports with the aim of promoting healthy lifestyles, physical fitness and community participation in aerobics. She is the founder and instructor of Fit N Safe Aerobics Club.
“Despite, I will remain committed to represent DCS with pride and excellence. Since 2009, I have represented the DCS in various sporting codes, including soccer, handball and aerobics, at national championships. In 2025, I represented DCS in the SADC Games hosted in Namibia, which was a significant achievement and a proud moment in my sporting journey. My commitment to sport and community development was also recognised in 2025, when I was nominated and awarded Sportswoman of the Year at the Basadi Community Awards, hosted in Bethal,” Ms Radebe added
In addition to her professional and sporting achievements, she is committed to lifelong learning and personal development. She recently graduated with degree in May 2026, an achievement that has motivated her to continue pursuing for more academic qualifications and expanding her knowledge. Shestrongly believes in empowering and encouraging other women to pursue education and never give up on their dreams.
“My journey has been characterised by commitment, leadership, resilience and passion to empower others. It taught me that success is not defined by one achievement, but by the willingness to continue learning, serving others, pursuing excellence and inspiring those around yourself. Furthermore, I am committed to use my professional experience, sporting passion and personal journey to make a positive difference in the lives of others and to encourage the next generation to reach their full potential,” she concluded.
