“Celebrating woman is so important because a woman performs the role of wife, partner, organizer, administrator, director, re-creator, disburser, economist, mother, disciplinarian, teacher, health officer, artist and queen in the family at the same time.
Apart from it, women play a key role in the socio-economic development of the society,” Event organiser, Danelle Dreyer said.
Dreyer said the event was the 3rd Netball Fundraiser that she had hosted and the events have always been a great success and ones to remember.
“It brings together people from all ages to enjoy a sport they can’t participate in all the time anymore.
They end up playing with friends, old school friends and colleagues.
The moms standing next to the field that always supports their daughters get the opportunity to enter a team and enjoy the day for a good cause.
I love being involved in charity, I believe that a hand that is closed can’t receive.
Hosting a netball day is an ideal fundraiser because it is a Win, Win situation,” Dreyer said.
The turnout was excellent considering the event fell over a long weekend.
“There was plenty of supporters, grandparents and children that came to enjoy and support the players.
The referees and management got to enjoy lovely platters sponsored by Cancun Spur for the day, because without them as one of our sponsors, a day like this was not going to be possible,” she said.
Each player on the day got a R50 Cancun Spur Voucher.
Cancun Spur also sponsored a voucher for the man of the match in each round that was chosen by the referees of the match.
Four trophies sponsored by P.I.E & E CC in Valley settlement was handed out to the winners and the second places of both leagues.
“We decided to Sponsor the event to celebrate women’s Day with our local community in the Vaal and make a difference in our community through fundraising
The turnout was great with hundreds of supporters encouraging the ladies to do their best while raising funds for a good course.
Women’s Day is an opportunity to show appreciation to all the women in our community and we decided to use this opportunity to show Spur’s support to the Women in our country,” Cancun Spur Public Relations Manager, Sihle Makama said.
R5000 was raised in the love of the game, having fun and having a memorable Women’s day 2022.
